Широкоизвестное название экзамена (полностью называемого the eleven-plus examination) для учеников начальных школ в возрасте от 11-ти лет или чуть старше, который выявлял их способности к различным типам образования, предоставленным Законом об образовании 1944 г. (secondary modern, secondary technical, secondary grammar education и т. д.) Ненадёжность результатов тестирования детей в таком возрасте и такого способа определения типа школы, в которую они должны были быть направлены, послужили причиной появления the Education Act 1976, который предписал местным органам управления составить план полной реорганизации всей системы. The eleven-plus воспринимался в определённых кругах как элитарное и несправедливое испытание по отношению к тем детям, интеллектуальные возможности которых могли проявиться в более позднем возрасте. -
